Abstract :
The safety of individuals when working by themselves is a continuing problem for many organisations. The National Rivers Authority (NRA) have a significant number of employees who, in the course of their duties, will be alone in the countryside of England and Wales. Kennedy and Donkin Systems Control Limited (KDSC) has been commissioned by the NRA to investigate the feasibility of providing a means by which employees working alone could summon assistance. The authors give a brief overview of the concept of a lone worker alarm (LWA) and the possible use of satellites in providing the LWA facilities
