Abstract :
The author discusses the benefits to aviation of reliable communication. Use of satellite CNS (communication, navigation and surveillance) allows for automatic position reporting. When GPS/Glonass satellite navigation joins satcom, derived positions will be accurate to 100 m. Other benefits such as automatic air traffic control functions are discussed
