Abstract
An approach to infinite impulse response (IIR) filtering based on genetic algorithms is detailed. This method addresses some of the difficulties encountered with existing methods of adaptation, providing guaranteed filter stability and the ability to search multimodal error surfaces. Simulation results are presented demonstrating the suitability of this approach to the problem of IIR system identification
