Abstract
The awareness of ever increasing power levels in the field of communication and surveillance electromagnetic sources, together with the usage of full authority control systems for engines and aircraft operation, has caused the introduction of new requirements in the demonstration of compliance with high intensity radio frequency (HFRF) encounters. This paper briefly deals with the analytical process being studied with a view to deriving an environment which can be justifiably shown to embrace the significant and likely combination of factors which go to generating the electromagnetic environment external to the aircraft. Extension to the determination of system and unit test levels by analytical study is briefly addressed in the paper. It is fully accepted in many areas of engineering and science that a quantitative analysis may be used to support experience and operational judgment in the determination ofthe relevant factors particular to any subject and to support qualitative analysis
