Relay specific computer aided testing for protective relays

For the power system protection fraternity, development in South Africa, means that the aims and goals for protective relay maintenance need to be revised. The author introduces the concept of relay specific computer aided testing software packages to assist reaching the revised maintenance goals. The software package consists of the actual computer program (for the purpose of this paper referred to as the `relay specific programme´) and a manual. Examples of such packages as developed and used in Eskom are given. Feedback from the actual users of these packages is discussed
