Abstract
The settings of distance relays in a large interconnected power system need to be continually adapted in order for the protection to give optimal performance. The authors describe how this adaptation may be realistically achieved via computer control where processing is distributed in a hierarchical structure. A coordination programme based upon graph theory and functional dependency theory gives efficient evaluation of relay settings for any given power system state
