Abstract :
Trapped-energy piezoelectric resonators with elliptical ring electrodes conforming to the anisotropy in the piezoelectric plate are investigated. In this piezoelectric resonator, the electrode size can be arbitrarily large without causing inharmonic overtone resonances, and therefore the resonator has a low series resistance. Some resonators with elliptical ring electrodes have been fabricated using ceramic and AT-cut quartz plates. It is shown that these resonators have series resistances lower than those of conventional resonators
