Abstract
The author first contrasts the growth in demand for mobile data with that for cellular telephony. It is suggested that the key factor that will stimulate the growth in mobile data is the supply of attractive total solutions for real business needs. The author then focuses on the specific set of applications collectively called road transport informatics. The services and facilities these applications may require are identified in the context of the possible transfer modes for mobile data
