Abstract
The author discusses the important role of telecommunications management in supporting and providing mobility in personal communications. Management issues specific to both terminal and personal mobility are identified and discussed. These management issues are subsequently used as the basis for possible approaches to analysing, designing and implementing management systems with the functionality required for networks offering mobility. Examples from Universal Personal Telephony (UPT), the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), and from the RACE II MONET project are discussed
