Abstract
The U. S. Coast Guard performs a number of missions, e.g. pollution surveillance, search and rescue, ice reconnaissance, and enforcement of laws and treaties, which require large scale ocean surveillance. Evaluation of numerous types of sensor systems has shown that these missions can be performed more effectively by using sensor-equipped aircraft. This paper will discuss some recent Coast Guard research and development programs in remote sensing.
