Abstract
The formulation of the dielectric relaxation characteristics for a dispersive medium by the FDTD (finite-difference time-domain) method is described. The validity of the formulation is verified by comparing the calculated complex permittivity to analytical values. Dielectric relaxation is seen to be one of the dispersive phenomena. The same procedure, that is, the use of the equation of motion for an electric charge, can also be applied to the time-harmonic simulation of a more complex dispersive media such as plasma.<>
