Abstract
Since 1969 when the report of the first intercomparison of moored current meters was published, a number of intercomparisons of current meters operating throughout the ocean environment have been made. An overview of 14 intercomparison tests is given. These tests have elucidated the in situ characteristics of a number of current meters suspended on a flexible mooring line subject to time-dependent forcing.
