Abstract
A new step-by-step procedure is presented for the estimation of satellite link water vapour attenuation on a slant path using temperature and humidity values at ground level as input parameters. An estimate for the standard deviation of the method is also given. Statistical maps for the water vapour scale height have been produced using numerical analysis of the ECMWF data. The water vapour scale height is needed in the method for correction of geographical variations of water vapour vertical profiles
