Abstract :
This paper reviews the measurement technologies of phase noise and amplitude noise. Definitions and the appropriate units of phase noise and amplitude noise are reviewed. Single channel, cross-correlation and carrier suppression techniques are compared and discussed. The use of the NIST PM/AM noise standard is also discussed
