Abstract
Simplified reduced-order extended Kalman filter (EKF) models for a surface-mounted permanent magnet brushless AC motor are developed to estimate its winding resistance and flux-linkage due to permanent magnets, and potentially, the stator winding and rotor magnet temperature rises. Two reduced-order EKF models are presented based on the sensorless and sensored operation of rotor position and speed, respectively, and the corresponding simulated results are compared. Excellent agreement is achieved between the estimated and actual values.
