Abstract :
A method based on discrete wavelet transform is proposed for contrast enhancement of radiological images. It is based on three steps: (i) image transform is done by using an orthogonal wavelet transform; (ii) noise reduction by means of an adaptive thresholding function that performs a postprocessing to the wavelet coefficients; (iii) contrast enhancement using a linear function with level decomposition dependence. Attention is given to the ability to maintain fine detail in the image and to avoid artifacts during noise reduction
