Abstract
In recent years, mobile telecommunication has become very popular, and a high capacity system is required. The base station antennas of the conventional system are installed in locations higher than roofs for implementing the macro cell system, therefore high gain and beam-tilted antennas are used for a high capacity system. On the other hand, the Personal Handy-phone System (PHS) had been in use in Japan since 1995. In this system, base station antennas are of relatively low gain and colinear arrays are widely used, because of their easy installation and low cost. They are generally installed on the top of public telephone boxes, on street utility poles, or the roofs of buildings, in order to obtain the high capacity system by implementing a micro/pico cell system. In this paper, we present propagation measurements under a street environment by using several antennas, and investigate their propagation characteristics from the view point of the polarization and radiation pattern of the base station antenna
