Abstract :
Summary form only given. The objectives of the NSF program are as follows: to dramatically increase the quality of US undergraduate engineering education as well as the number of engineering baccalaureate degrees awarded, especially to women and underrepresented minorities; to design, implement, evaluate, and disseminate new structures and fresh approaches affecting all aspects of US undergraduate engineering education, including instructional delivery systems; and to create significant intellectual exchange and substantive resource linkages among major US engineering baccalaureate-producing institutions and other institutions. A possible curriculum using a top-down approach with early emphasis on design has been considered.<>
