Abstract :
The main question is: how can one exploit a priori information for the inverse-scattering problem? In the past, interesting results were obtained by using numerical solutions of the integral equations relating scattering data to unknown dielectric parameters. Usually, these methods require the solutions of large ill-conditioned systems. The authors address the inverse scattering problem by using a probabilistic approach that allows one to take into account the complete nonlinear integral equation for scattering, and by using an iterative method (i.e., simulated annealing), thus avoiding large-matrix inversion
