Abstract :
A software system called Paragon 500 was used for monitoring, controlling, testing, and acquiring data from an industrial grade process control system in a laboratory environment. The monitoring and control of the process control system using Paragon 500 have been done in five steps: (1) construction of a function block diagram of the control strategies for an industrial process; (2) drawing of a professional-looking custom display, which is the animated computer image of the process control system; (3) provision of a wide variety of drivers for real-world communication; (4) provision of built-in simulation functions, used to test alarm, control responses without connecting the process control system to the computer; and (5) provision of many real-time automation functions.<>
