Abstract :
This paper describes practical modeling and simulation techniques of general-purpose system simulators which can analyze a power electronic (PE) system which is mixed in three meanings; analog and digital, main and control, and multiple physical domains. First it is described how to model the mixed system by decomposing it into different classification types in a system description language, for example, in AHDL or in VHDL-AMS. It is also described how it is briefly processed numerically by simulators. Secondly linking methods with other modules, for example, with a C module, are described to extend the analyzable circuit class. Finally two analysis and design examples are described. A digitally controlled inverter system is adopted to show how a mixed PE system is modeled. A digitally-controlled converter system with a FPGA and a DSP units is also described to show how the simulation is effectively used for practical hardware design.
