  • Abstract
The authors describe the advantages of implementing corrective capacitors mounted directly on the low voltage side of a high voltage power transformer. These capacitors have two functions, namely: avoiding ferroresonance at the low voltage side; and reducing the inrush currents of a transformer. The elimination of ferroresonance can be achieved by connecting a capacitor of 2μF to earth on the low voltage side of a power transformer. The reduced inrush currents are the result of the limited remanent magnetism in the transformer, due to a switch off with a capacitor mounted directly on the low voltage side. Reduction of the inrush current ensures proper functioning of the differential protection
