The paper gives the state of the art in arc furnace flicker assessment and prediction, taking account of the type of furnace (AC or DC), of the possible presence of compensating equipment (static VAr compensator, series reactor, synchronous condenser) and of the attenuation due to the transfer between HV and LV networks
