Abstract :
In the presence of multiple access interference, the performance of multi-user systems can be enhanced by using interference estimation methods for interference cancellation. A method of interference estimation is proposed for which some statistical knowledge of interference is required by the estimator. Coefficients of the proposed estimator can be obtained by solving a set of linear equations. A model for the system is presented and its performance analysis is carried out by finding the expected value of the estimation error and the approximate expression for the probability of error. This is shown to offer a good complexity-performance compromise compared to other multi-user detectors
