Abstract
A well-known technique for improving the bandwidth performance of adaptive arrays is to use tapped delay-lines behind the elements. The authors discuss how the number of delay-line taps and the delay between taps affect the nulling bandwidth of linear arrays with up to 10 elements and an arbitrary (possibly unequal) number of taps behind each element. For each array size, the optimum number of delay-line taps and the optimum intertap delay are determined as functions of the required nulling bandwidth. Adaptive array performance is relatively insensitive to the delay between taps. The effect intertap delay with up to 10 elements is similar to that of a two-element array.<>
