Abstract
The SATEMA (satellites in telematics) project has been established in the framework of support actions to the Telematics Applications Programme (TAP). The SATEMA project pursues two goals, namely to make satellite techniques accessible to the projects within TAP and to establish a base for the further development of (European) navigation satellite services. The first goal is being accomplished in the application projects by providing technical expertise and by elaborating, in close consultation with users, practical implementation proposals. The second goal requires specific case studies to be undertaken and coordinated discussion with the other players in GNSS. SATEMA has already developed several background papers and scenarios concerning the development of navigation satellite services and assisted several TAP projects with concrete proposals incorporating the use of satellite communication and broadcasting techniques for setting up practical demonstrations
