    There is a trend for electricity supply industry utilities to focus on the demand side to solve issues of supply and demand. This approach has been become known as demand side management (DSM). Here, the authors outline how end-use monitoring is an important part of gathering field data for a DSM program. The object in establishing an end-use survey is to collect energy use data of sufficient detail to allow a DSM program to be formulated with confidence and its impact to be successfully evaluated.
