Abstract :
The authors describe the experience gained during the 1980s on the behaviour of electrical distribution networks during great storms and specially during the autumn floods caused by the penetration of unusually cold air-currents at the higher levels of the troposphere, causing torrential rain and floods which are the main factors for the deficient quality of electrical supply, thus causing serious damages to companies and clients. The authors analyse the causes of supply-interruptions as well as supply-quality according to the needs of the clientele; study the areas, affected plants, undistributed energy (UE), damage-evaluation, etc.; and state the activity of operational personnel, work-organisation and accident-prevention. The authors propose solutions to improve the quality and reliability of installations, pre-project studies for siting transformation centres and substations, and networks, and integrated planning for future distribution networks
