Abstract
The problem of high-frequency electromagnetic (EM) scattering by an open-ended waveguide cavity with an interior termination is of significant interest in RCS (radar cross section), and EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) applications. In general, the interior terminations can be rather complex, and the waveguide shape can be relatively arbitrary in practical situations. Therefore, a procedure is developed which can be useful for separately estimating the effects on the overall scattering due to changes in the waveguide shape for a given type of termination, and due to different complex terminations for a given waveguide shape. This procedure involves a hybrid combination of analytical and numerical/experimental methods. The application of the procedure is illustrated by treating the problem of the scattering by a semi-infinite parallel plate waveguide with an interior termination characterized by a modal scattering matrix with randomly generated elements.<>
