Abstract :
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel in-fiber unidirectional variable-optical-attenuator controlled by light. Coherent optically-driven acoustic vibrations in a photonic crystal fiber core cause unidirectional inter-polarization scattering. Switching times of 20 ns are achieved.
