Abstract :
The basic operation of the soft commutated PWM inverter (SCPI) and the auxiliary resonant commutated pole inverter (ARCPI) is reviewed. After a more detailed description of the various loss mechanisms that arise in these configurations, a theoretical estimation for a specific application of all the losses is given. Finally, efficiency of these resonant configurations is compared to the efficiency of a hard switched PWM inverter (HSPI).<>
