Abstract
A description is given of the use of a voltage-source PWM converter to provide series capacitive reactance compensation without the danger of subsynchronous resonance instability. Because dielectric capacitors are replaced with silicon switches, there is no possibility of resonance. Fast response is also achievable.<>
