Abstract
The transition to the Year 2000 brings with it many unknowns and uncertainties in the world of computerized and electronic systems. Software development techniques passed along from years gone by may render many computerized systems unable to continue their function into the next century, This Year 2000 Problem, or Y2K as it has become known, can possibly have many effects on rural electric utilities, not only in the area of information systems, but also in the areas of system operations and distribution automation. This paper analyzes the history and scope of the Y2K problem acid its possible effects on electric distribution systems
