Abstract :
Acquiring the real time traffic information is very important for users of vehicular ad hoc networks. This work proposed a novel multicasting protocol called geographic source routing to help drivers understand the current traffic conditions in order to avoid congestion and make optimal routing plans. By using modified directed broadcasting, the broadcast storm problem is eliminated. The influence of traffic regulations is also analyzed and a packet forwarding strategy is introduced to be integrated with the protocol. The simulation results show that this proposal can significantly improve the bandwidth utilization and reduce the packet delay.
