Abstract
Simulation model has been proven an effective tool for analyzing complex vehicle movements under sophisticate transportation environment, including the container operations in the freight terminals. In order to replicate the consecutive activities that each truck has to go through to fulfill its task in the freight terminal, system modeling of terminal operations can provide a seamless analysis to identify the bottleneck of the service chain, to simulate the interactions between each maneuver and to determine the system capability. This study proposed an effective approach by projecting freight demand and incorporating it in a simulation model to analyze the vehicle movements within the terminal. The developed modeling approach can be widely implemented for optimizing the management of truck operations in the port terminal and railway freight yard.
