Abstract
A review of the results of laboratory tests of some organic and inorganic scintillators as detectors of both fast neutrons and the products of their interaction is reported. The analysis of such reactions provides a good basis for environmental, geological, medical, customs security studies, etc. The temperature dependencies of the light yield found for stilbene, p-terphenyl, anthracene, and LiI:Eu single crystals provides the necessary information to assess their possible use as scintillation materials in advanced applications for high and low temperatures. The results of the temperature versus light yield measurements are discussed within the model of molecular- lattice polaron formation in organic molecular systems.
