Abstract :
High-performance implementations of recursive filters are discussed. They have both the higher speed and lower cost than conventional designs. The look-ahead scheme is applied and the relation between it and the array structure is derived which makes the highest speed available. Two-level pipelined systolic arrays are dedicated and proposed for such designs. They can reach the maximum throughput rate for both clustered and scattered look-ahead. In addition, to prevent the large overhead induced in the conventional two-stage synthesis for look-ahead transfer functions, a new approach from specification to final result directly is also presented. Due to the lack of any transformation, the hardware is less complex and the performance is improved significantly. Simulation results show the improvement attained is at least 10 dB
