Abstract :
The decision feedback channel equalizer (DFE) was introduced for dispersive communication channels for its better performance over the linear channel equalizer. A DFE consists of a feedforward filter (FFF) and a feedback filter (FBF). Their filter coefficients can be estimated with the conventional least mean square (LMS) algorithm. While the optimal performance of the DFE has been praised in many studies, its initial convergence behavior is not as well studied. The convergence of the DFE is first analyzed. Based on the analysis, an alternative DFE adaptation method is proposed. The new method will significantly reduce the required initial convergence time with a little more computation power
