  • Abstract
Refractivity structure parameter (Cn/sup 2/) statistics have been derived from radio data collected over a double knife-edge diffraction path. The cumulative distribution and diurnal variation of Cn/sup 2/ are studied, and the results are compared with those reported in the literature. Propagation measurements are conducted on the experimental link between Roorkee (265 m above MSL) and Dehradun (677 m above MSL) in India. The Cn/sup 2/ values obtained from the radio data were found to be log-normally distributed with large diurnal variations. The maximum Cn/sup 2/ occurred during midday and midnight hours, due to the combined effect of the temperature gradient and mechanical turbulence in the atmosphere. The range of Cn/sup 2/ values thus evaluated was found to be within those reported by others. It was inferred that if Cn/sup 2/ values are evaluated from the available meteorological parameters, they could be used to predict the fading behavior of any tropospheric terrestrial communication link planned in that area.<>
