Abstract :
Summary form only given. A circular aperture distribution is proposed that has two parameters that are easily related to the sidelobe ratio (ratio of peak to first sidelobe), the sidelobe taper ratio (ratio of the first to second sidelobe level), beamwidth, efficiency, and other pattern quantities. This distribution provides an additional degree of flexibility in pattern tradeoff studies. Specifically, given a fixed first sidelobe ratio and sidelobe taper, the narrowest main beamwidth can be obtained. This circular aperture distribution has the form of a modified lambda function. The results obtained are useful in design tradeoffs for multibeam high-efficiency low-sidelobe antenna systems increasingly in demand for new generations of satellite systems, e.g., the L-band land mobile satellite system and the Ka-band personal access satellite system.<>
