Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of the transient behaviour of a three phase slip ring induction motor under two nonconventional connections. These connections allow the motor to operate synchronously at either full or half its synchronous speed. A state space mathematical model in the original phase values frame describing the transient behaviour of the motor under such modes of operation has been developed and simulated. The merits and drawbacks of these modes are also discussed. The validity of the mathematical model and the conclusions reached has been verified experimentally
