  • Abstract
Long power cables are employed in applications like, for example, sub sea oil exploitation where the adjustable speed drives (ASD) sit far from the induction motor. The voltage waveform typically supplied by the inverter yields overvoltage in the motor leads due to the cable response to the voltage excitation. To study this phenomenon, accurate cable parameters values are essential for the correct system modeling and simulation. This paper presents an alternative method to determine the cable parameters, measuring only the current at the inverter output terminals. This method was validated by experimental results. In addition, an algebraic algorithm to assess the parameters related with the skin effect is proposed. An equivalent circuit, which comprises resistances and inductances, represents the skin effect
