Abstract
The effect of mapping data into a subspace prior to performing detection of dipolar sources in white noise is assessed in this paper. The subspace transformations are designed to accurately represent sources in a specified region of interest. The transformation attenuates sources outside the region, reducing the sensitivity of the detector to external interference. A statistical analysis of detector performance and illustrative examples are provided.
