Abstract
This describes the design and construction of large commercial LIM catapult drives using double-sided, short-secondary machines with end-speeds up to 120 mph. These units exhibit a high force density and have a 2.0 second operating time from a 480 volt or 2400 volt inverter supply. A novel magnetic configuration includes high-speed exit-edge compensation to eliminate the retarding force exhibited in conventional linear motors
