Abstract :
Satellite antennas that cover a large portion of the Earth field of view can suffer from interference or create interference to localized portions or the coverage. A simple antenna system design is presented that provides broad coverage but excludes the localised area. This design uses a horn antenna for the overall coverage and "pokes a hole" in the horn coverage in the localized area with a more directive pattern from a reflector antenna. This concept can reduce interference on the uplink (receive, case) or on the downlink (transmit case).
