Abstract :
The authors generalize the parameterization of 2-band (or dyadic) wavelet to the M-band case. A complete characterization of M-band wavelets is given, including a recipe for constructing such wavelets. It is shown that M-band wavelets can be constructed from a perfect reconstruction filter bank with added regularity conditions. The regularity conditions are important both for the numerical stability of the resulting approximation procedures and for increased compactness of the signal representations with such wavelets
