Abstract
The design and control of a nonconventional converter with a peak power of 3.6 MVA and a bandwidth ranging from DC up to 10 kHz are presented. The converter has been designed for an experiment that has recently been proposed within the framework of the JET project. The basic conformation of the converter is described. The novel control technique, which is based on a comparison between the current reference and the load current, through a system of hysteresis comparators and a simple combinatorial network, is presented. Simulation results are given.<>
