  • Abstract
    Stator winding failure due to insulation system deterioration is an important cause of hydrogenerator forced outages. Furthermore, if the deterioration is not found at an early stage, premature stator rewinding may be required, at a cost that far exceeds the cost of many maintenance procedures, such as rewedging and cleaning. Several online monitors are now available which detect stator winding deterioration. This paper reviews the need for online monitoring and describes ozone, temperature and partial discharge monitoring systems
