Abstract
To improve the performance of thrust bearings, one needs both an understanding of the physics and an analysis capability. Recent development work has focused in on both of these needs. The authors are using this new work to improve the performance of thrust bearings that have been in service for many years. Examples of some of the modifications that have been carried out together with the improvements in performance are described
