Abstract :
The battery charging generator for an electric propulsion ship needs a long-term test with many batteries. Therefore, the performance verification of the charging generator requires a lot of time and cost. In order to reduce the time and cost, the real-time simulator using a CHILS (Controller-Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation) system, which is capable of verifying the performance of the physical hardware such as a prototype AVR(Automatic Voltage Regulator), is applied to the simulation of the charging generator. The AVR performs a role in controlling the output current and voltage of the charging generator to satisfy the charging conditions of the battery which stores propulsion energy of an electric propulsion ship. To simulate battery charging characteristics, the 12-phase synchronous charging generator system and lead-acid battery are modeled using RSCAD. The battery voltage, current and SOC (State Of Charge) have been simulated and tested using the CHILS system. The performance of the AVR has been validated and has satisfied all of the battery charging conditions.
